Description

This DVD offers a wide variety of Yoga options for people of all sizes, shapes and ages. A principal Yoga instructor at the Harvard University Center for Wellness for over fifteen years, John Schlorholtz has created a number of innovative, flowing routines that are safe for seniors and people with injuries or disabilities, including extensive segments for people who are chair-bound.

At the same time, the DVD offers people of any age or physical condition a deep, gentle work-out. "My main hope for the Ageless Yoga DVD series is that, not only will people get a good, appropriate work-out, but that they will also learn skills and information about posture and how their bodies work that will help them in their daily lives," says John. "I also hope the DVD's transmit the real joy of working with body and breath."

Keli Ballinger, Director of the Harvard Wellness Center, calls John's work, "great for young and old, stiff and flexible, and those with medical conditions, including arthritis."

The DVD contains about two hours of material that has been organized into dozens of routines. Ranging in length from five or six minutes to eighty or ninety minutes, the workouts are easy to fit into busy schedules. Topics covered include loosening up, joint freedom, strength, stretch, balance, breathing, and relaxation and meditation. No other DVD in the field is this extensive.

"As the population of America continues to age, more and more Yoga instructors are trying to figure out how to adapt Yoga to bodies that don't fit the standard Yoga formulas so that people can still get the proven benefits that Yoga offers," says John. "These DVD's represent my response to that issue, based on my years of Yoga practice with diverse populations."

Summary: "Wonderful"

I have verdigo & can't get on the floor for yoga. I do 1 or 2 of these sets before I go to work. No special apps. Just you and a chair. I've had a stiff neck for months, with this dvd I felt improvement immediately. I had back surgery a year ago and the stretches here are great. No pain.

Summary: "what a godsend this is"

I purchased this DVD on the suggestion of my massage therapist. I have fibromyalgia and cannot get down on the floor to do regular yoga. This DVD has been awesome for me. It has helped me stay loose, do some stretches and not leave me dying from soreness. Very explicate. You can watch this at your own pace. Click on whatever you feel like doing on any specific day. There are also students in the backround doing the yoga along with the leader. He talks you thru everything and suggests different things to help you along. Reminds you to breathe (I tend to forget to do that) It think this DVD is excellant. He also has other yoga DVD's. I actually came back to amazon to order another one for myself (in case I wear this one out) and one for my sister also. My massage therapist listened to me go on and on about this DVD so much he ordered one for his mother also. Thank you so much for this and I am looking forward to ordering more of his in the future.

Summary: "A Little Serenity in the AM with Yoga"

I began doing Yoga about a year ago, but everything always seems to be scheduled for Tuesday nights! Because I opted for a writing class, I needed an alternative to Tuesday night Chair Yoga at the community center. After reading many reviews on Amazon, I opted for this DVD. I am not disappointed. The routines are well organized and the on-screen participants provide good examples of the correct postures. I appreciate the format, as well: After the disclaimer, a list of several routines comes up--everything from joint flexibility to balance--and the viewer can choose the appropriate routine. Also, the exact times are given, so a routine that fits one's schedule can be chosen. (Most are around 18 minutes.) This is not a good video for those who are used to putting their bodies into unique positions while balancing on one leg. It's really gentle, really basic. Namaste!

Summary: "moves too quickly"

If you are a senior citizen looking for truly ageless techniques and gentle chair yoga, this presentation moves much too fast. Plus I somewhat hurt my neck by following along. Do not recommend for those "slightly out of shape". I felt more tired than rejuvenated.
